About Us

The Historic Clothing and Textile Collection (HCTC) is an educational resource that provides unique learning experiences for students at UGA by encouraging discussions around changes in clothing styles, textile technologies, merchandising, art, and social issues. This website is intended to provide students, faculty, and outside researchers with the opportunity to view a small portion of our collection digitally. Each year, we digitize a number of items from our collection to enrich the curriculum of specific courses. If you are a faculty member who is interested in having some items digitized specifically for your class, please reach out to learn more about our collection, please visit our main website here. To learn more about our donation policies, please visit our donations page hereStudents, faculty, and outside researchers can view items from our collection in UGA’s Special Collections Libraries. To request items to view (on-site), please use our online finding aids. You can also reach out to a librarian at 706-542-7123 or other inquiries, please email us at

What is interesting about the HCTC?

Our extensive collection features women’s, men’s, and children’s wear, including clothing, hats, shoes, and jewelry, as well as quilts and coverlets. In addition to clothing and textile artifacts, the collection contains pictorial items that represent historic dress, including authentic photographs and magazines such as Godey’s Lady Book and Vogue.
